THE SONGWRITER
In the last 3 years, Deric has become as well known for the songs he has written for other artists as he has for the songs that appear on his own critically-acclaimed debut disc, Deric Ruttan. Here’s a list of songs Deric has written that have been on the radio, and on other people’s albums.
17. "REAL THING" (Written by Chris Thorsteinson, Dave Wasyliw, and Deric Ruttan). Recorded by The Higgins on their Real Thing album. "Real Thing" released as a single to Canadian radio on July 8th, 2008.
16. "LET'S GET ROWDY" (Written by Aaron Pritchett, Mitch Merrett and Deric Ruttan). Recorded by Aaron Pritchett on his After The Rain album. Released as a single to Canadian radio on June 9th, 2008.

"Hold My Beer" was released as a single on May 17, 2006. At the 2007 Canadian Country Music Awards on September 10, Deric, Aaron and Mitch won SOCAN Songwriter(s) Of The Year for this song. This is Deric's first CCMA Award.

6. “LOT OF LEAVIN’ LEFT TO DO” (Written by Deric Ruttan, Brett Beavers, and Dierks Bentley). Recorded by Dierks Bentley on his Modern Day Drifter album. Released as the album’s debut single in January, 2005, the song was a Top 5 single in the US (#3 on Billboard, #2 on R & R), by June, 2005. In Canada, the song spent 5-weeks at #1.
